The North West Media Awards is a prestigious annual event that celebrates excellence in journalism and media practice across the North West Province. Established in 2021, the Awards recognize and honour media practitioners who demonstrate outstanding dedication, integrity, and impact in their work.
Organised by seasoned journalist Ananias Ndlovu, founder of Naledi News and Executive Committee Member of the National Press Club, the North West Media Awards have grown into one of the province’s most respected platforms for acknowledging the vital role media plays in shaping society, holding power to account, and telling stories that matter.
The Awards feature multiple categories, including investigative reporting, sports coverage, photography, broadcasting, and community journalism, as well as the coveted Poloko Tau Investigative News Story of the Year. Through these categories, we shine a spotlight on journalists, photographers, broadcasters, and digital content creators whose work informs, educates, and inspires communities.
More than just a ceremony, the North West Media Awards foster professional growth, encourage ethical journalism, and strengthen the bond between media practitioners, government, private sector stakeholders, and the public. Each year, the event draws a diverse audience of industry leaders, policymakers, corporate sponsors, and community representatives, creating a platform for collaboration and recognition.
Our vision is to elevate the standards of media in the North West Province while nurturing upcoming talent and preserving the integrity of the profession. By celebrating those who excel, we aim to inspire the next generation of storytellers to pursue truth, courage, and creativity in their work.
